Karl,

I towed a diesel Westy about 600 miles a few months ago. I towed it on its wheels and this worked out very well. I was able to cruise at 70 mph on the interstate with no handling problems.

Just be sure to allow more distance for brakeing and be very alert for large vehicles passing. Semis move a great amount of air and you can feel it as they pass. I found it helpful to drive to the exterme right as they passed so I felt very little of their blast of air.

Remove the half shafts if it is auto and be sure to use neutral if manual.

I heard a story about someone towing a vw bug with a rv. Seems it was left in gear and eventually destructed resulting in engine fire.
