Hi gang,

My apolgies to all of you and especially Tom Carrington (our faithful list admin) for those annoying automatic vacation messages my mail program was sending until Tom set me to Nomail. I thought I'd done this correctly before I left --- apparently not.

I just got back from 3 weeks touring the Canadian Maritime provinces along with a brief sojourn in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. My '84 Westy purred beautifully the whole way. The only glitch was the clutch slave cylinder started leaking laeding to occasional wonkiness. I had it replaced by Jeff Hogue of Shoal Cove Auto in Blandford, Nova Scotai. I cannot speak highly enough of Jeff --- he's on the Karl Bloss recommended mechanics list (am I ever glad I printed it off) and he is a vanagon guru and a really nice, helpful guy to boot. Hopefully we'll be hearing from him on the list soon!!! Incidentally, his business card reads "Volkswagens always welcome, even Vanagons" ---- and I'm not making that up.

I averaged 24.6 miles per CDN gallon (about 20.5 miles per US gallon) which I thought was pretty good given a heavy load (canoe, wife two kids, dog, two bikes etc) and generally very hilly terrain.

Saw lots of Westies and some really nice Vanagons. I'll note that a Vanagon is very rare here in Toronto and one in good shape is really rare. Nice to see! I spread the list gospel whenever I could.

Cheers, Doug '84 Westy Toronto, Canada
