Having followed this thread for weeks, there is something I don't understand. According to the Bentley, the vanagon manual transmission is supposed to take a hypoid API GL-4, Mil-L-2105, SAE 80W, 80W-90 gear oil. So, I read from that that we should use a hypoid... single weight SAE 80 or multi weight 80W-90. Right? Don't know what Mil-L-2105 is. My point is, isn't MT90 a 90 weight gear oil? Why would we use a heavier single weight oil than recommended by the manufacturer? What am I missing here?
