well, the die has been cast, and the choice made. subaru power it is! picked up a complete 2.2 ,with only 70k out of a 91 legacy for 600.00> less than what a set of pistons, liners and heads would cost for the old 1.9. sorry robert and other purists- this just seems a better option. for a total of around 1500.00 plus my labor and some custom homemade wasmataz parts i will have a van with a motor that should outlast 3 vanagon motors! i have driven both 2.1 and 1.9 and to be honest the have never impressed me. always seemed like vw designed this engine during octoberfest. but this subaru- OH MY - quite, smooth and powerful- even the brand new 2.1 i drove in 1990 wasnt this quite and powerful. well ve rambled enough- progress or lack of will be reported often! brian 81 rabbit diesel 84 soon to be subawestarubagonacy gl
