Several weeks ago Peter Buettner reported that he had located the part number for the original keys. I have gotten a limited supply of them. They are the original Witte blanks made in Germany. They have the rubber head with the cutout VW logo. These keys are made of steel. If you get one from the local dealer, be aware that they cannot be successfully cut on a conventional key machine. Few locksmiths or hardware stores will have the cutter. I can offer these cut by code or duplicated. For the first batch I have, I'll offer these to list members duplicated from their working key for $13, and I'll pay return postage. This will just cover my cost of the blanks, freight, and the wear on the steel cutter. The next batch (already ordered) will be a bit more expensive. I do still have a good stock of the Italian steel rubber headed blanks, and the cost of them duplicated from an existing key is $4.75. Other than the VW logo, they look essentially the same. Thanks, everybody, and it was great meeting many fellow list members at BNNTA over Labor Day! Steve Sandlin www.steveslockshop.com '84 Wolfsburg Westy '79 Transporter '00 New Beetle |
