Hello, I am way behind on reading the Vanagon list mail and hope this message isn't too late. I was traveling in the UP several years ago when my Fox Wagon wouldn't start leaving me stranded in Iron Mountain, MI. I looked in the phone book, and there was only one ad in the yellow pages that was even remotely promising. I called "Foreign Car Service" and started worrying about spending big money to get out of there and back on the road. He told me to go to lunch and come back and when I did he had simply taken off the fuel filter and rinsed it through with gas to get the water out of it. A $30 dollar bill later I was out of there very much relieved. I thought sure I would be spending big money, and he could have taken a naive non-mechanical person (I'm much more mechanically inclined now) like myself to the cleaners but didn't. I don't know if he knows diesels, but I can vouch for this guys honesty. Tim Root Portage, WI 84 Vanagon 90 Fox Wagon 97 Jetta |
