This is not entirely true. I know of a few large companies that have
friends in Germany that order massive quantities of parts and have them
shipped here direct. This gives them the ability to sell the parts at a
SMALL discount from the actual VW Dealer list
price. I doubt there is any way that VW doesn't know this is going on.
One dealer in Germany just happens to sell 100 more shift boots a month
compared to the one 10 miles away that hasn't sold one in 10 years? I
don't think so.

I agree here, for the most part. As with any car, if there was enough
demand, even Saddam Hussein would start making Synchro parts.

Uh, I work at the Dealer - you need something? Again as with any
business, you have people that are there to collect a paycheck and
there's people like me - I want to be there. This is the only thing I
have ever done, sell parts - VW parts.

At minimum, these 4wd cars are 10 years old. How long do you expect the
Dealer to carry parts for a car that no one even takes to the Dealer
now? I would love to stock Synchro parts, but the computer only lets us
stock a part if it has sold 3 times in a 6 month
period. So you do the math.
