Just reached *highly recommended Vanagon Guru
Coby Smolens at his shop in San Anselmo, CA.

He has agreed take my van & will begin diagnostics
Monday.  I am still good for the long AAA tow & my
local VW mechanic was understanding &, I think, a little
relieved.

I think it was Listee George Chapman who put me
onto Coby:  Thanks George, wherever you are...
