My van does this sometime as well. Turns out that the fuel filter and fuel
pump get clogged up. Not much to do as far as the filter goes but to replace
it (I always carry a spare). The fuel pump you can pull off and clean out.
On the inlet side there is a screen which will usually catch all the large
debris.
Yes, I know that all this is caused by a dirty/rusty gas tank. The PO of my
van had the tank replaced in '94, but then "lost" her gas cap for a while
and used a RAG!!!! So, there's a bit of junk in the tank. But I don't have
the cash for a new tank and the problem seems to be slowly going away. I now
get about 2500 miles before clogging occures. One the plus side, I can
replace a fuel filter on the side of the highway in under 3 minutes... ;-)
