Subject: Cutting out problem
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

I'm curious... I've been reading the various threads for a couple months now about vanagons stalling out, cutting out, dying... then suddenly coming back to life again. My 88 wolfie used to do that. It would completely die sometimes while I was driving, sometimes when I was idling. The engine would just quit... rpms would drop to zero... no sputter, no hesitation, just on, then off... then, sometimes it would come right back to life while I was driving, all by itself... sometimes not. When I actually had to pull over, sometimes it needed a minute or two before it would start again, sometimes not... but it would always restart. It was a PITA, but never put the wolfwagon out of commision for more than a few minutes.

I remember my mechanic and I worked on the problem for a long time... changed the ecu, fuel filter, fuel pump, etc, etc. Never did figure out what it was. This problem went on for a year or more... sometimes it would hapen several times a week... then not at all for months at a time. That was why I finally sold it(other than the fact that I wanted a 4WD), it scared me... I kept thinking it was a precursor to something more serious, but nothing else ever came of it.

Is this the same problem you all are talking about? And for all the discussion on this list and all the brilliant minds working on it (and I'm not being facetious about that), has no one ever figured out what the problem is?

Very interesting.
