THE engineswap !

OK, you guys are in a hot debate on power vs reliability and I think that one should .... but ....a couple of years ago I saw the perfect "Vanagon GTI", a guy with a completely blown VBX who decided to go all the way . The floor/firewall was cut open, a subframe welded and a Chevy 350 with 350 auto, a shortened driveshaft and a Nova rear axel installed ! A little boat-type lid over the engine and he had what he claimed to be the perfect red-light racer - " It ate Golf GTI´s for breakfast" - with reasonable handling thanks to the mid engine ! There were also perfect access to the engine behind the sliding door, the only drawback was the loss of space ! Then one day, an 18 wheeler did not stop at redlights but rearended the Vanagon :( No person got injured though..... Cheers
