Since our rebuilt wbx was broken in (5,000 mi) we've been using Mobil 1.
Don't think it has had any effect on noisy lifters ( we still get some
ticking), but experience tells me that this is how to make an engine last a
long time.  I have a '92 Jetta GLi 16V thats been running Mobil 1 for all of
it's 152,000 miles.  It still runs like new and burns no oil between
changes.  I decided on Mobil 1 after seeing that Porsche and Ferrari spec.
Mobil 1 for new cars.  If it's good enough for them, it certainly is for me.

P.S. Fast oil change places will still try to get you back in 2,500 mi. with
synthetics.  Don't believe the sticker.  Years ago when synthetics first hit
the market, the mfgs. touted "extended oil change intervals".  Some said
that you could go 10 to 15,000 mi. between changes.  That's silly in the
other extreme.  I change Mobil 1 at 7,500.
