mine burned a few times, but I think it's because the high current causes the fuse to heat so much that it slowly burnes the fuse housing, so that the fuse terminal (that plastic think with two screws) no longer makes good contact with the fuse, causing increased resistance and even greater heating, and so on. I really hated that fuse terminal, so I finally replaced it with an automotive automatic fuse (small metal case). Works like a charm, if it ever trips (mine is only 40A, largest I could find) it resets in a minute or so. I found that on hot days the fuse would trip on the highest (4th) speed, but the 3rd was ok.

peanuts, but it's a great hassle when the socket burns. I defenitely recommend replacing it, and while you're there, replace the cable termination with a new one too. Once replaced, heating was reduced considerably.
