    I have often pondered the same dilemma.... and I had an idea.   Remove
the middle seat (temporarily).... Build yourself a box out of decent
plywood... roughly 4 foot on a side and 4 feet high... you might be able to
get a little more size into the cargo area.  Make  the side facing the
sliding door easy to remove/open.  Anyways, make this box easy to
disassemble.  When you want to haul some firewood.... swap the seat for the
box and there you go.... should be able to haul a full face cord with that.
Any listmembers with input on this?
