This is addressed mostly to Toronto area Westy and other VW van owners.

Having been on the list for some months now, it strikes me that we Canadians have some unique issues which separate us somewhat from our American Westphalia brothers. The most important of these is the US $ exchange rate, which is at 1.50 so everytime we see something that "only" costs a few hundred bucks US on all those wonderful American Westy sites, in fact it costs us 1.5 times that much PLUS the shipping, customs and other tyrannical taxes the Canadian government extorts from us. Added to this is the dearth of good VW mechanics and parts supply sources, (plus our unique winters....)

I see that Quebec has a VW Westphalia club, and I wonder if any or all of you listees in the Toronto area would be interested in getting together for drinks and or chat, with a view to trading stories, parts and good local mechanics for our beloved vans.

Having never really organized this kind of thing before, I'm not sure where to start, but if enough people e-mail back, we could attempt to have some kind of meeting at an agreed time and place. Who knows, it could even lead to something more permanent, but let's see.

Any of you hosers out there interested?
