if it worked well when new, then your Vanagon as simply gotten used and worn out. Why not fix the problem and not treat it. How much are you willing to spend. You can take it to MIDAS for a complete brake job. There they will do a thorough inspection of all your brake components. Or get a diagnosis, sometimes free. Then you know what needs to be fixed and fix it yourself. You don't need aftermarket brakes to stop safely. I speak for VW when I say their engineers knew what they were doing with all the testing and much backbreaking work to get it right.

Hello When I brake hard, the front of the van drops down. Because of this I believe the front disc brakes provide the lions share of the braking force. I find the brakes on the Vanagon are lacking particularly given the size and weight of the vehicle. This is even more of an issue when travelling at highway speed with 4-7 passengers!

I know that larger front disc brakes have been made available in the past from several list vendors. How well do these work?

What about improving the rear brakes?

Gary
