Sounds like your rig has developed the classic knock of a CV whose wear is approaching the outer limits. Most typical knocking will occur when you corner tightly. You can test this in a large parking lot. Track straight for a few feet then turn the steering wheel to its stops. If the CV is going out, the outboard CV's will knock. You can test this further by trying a turning stop. That will generally bring it out if you can't get it to show regularly. Also try stopping straight ahead with a positive firm pressure on the brake pedal. This two will cause the CV to knock.

Of course it should only knock if it is approaching its wear limits, provided it is greased properly.
