I was once on this list with an '84; now I'm back just having gotten a dormant '87 with fuel system issues. Engine has strong compression and spark; now it fires up right away on ether, but fuel does not want to get to the engine after the bus has been parked for a couple years. PO ran it recently. One $16 fuel filter later, the bus still won't fire. Noticed that the fuel pump whine that I am used to hearing was missing and fuel pump was cold after several attempted starts. PO was willing to give me a known-working Golf fuel pump, but it doesn't fit the Vanagon clamp. Priced new fuel pumps, and even (bless his heart) Mr. Salmon's pump, a bargain at $150, is still a bit steep after buying the van, insurance, and various tchotchkes like mufflers, etc. Bottom line: can anyone around Charleston, WV part with a working '75-'91 bus fuel pump? If so, please pmail me or leave a message at 304-744-8773, and we'll deal. Thanks! Sam |
