Look like my mistake - I was thinking I'd read "first" in their literature somewhere, but upon re-reading I can't find anything like that. They show their first pop-top conversion in 1961 (access was actually from the outside of the van - no hole in the roof, I think); were the Westfalia conversions from the 1950's pop-tops?
