All, Thanks for the multiple quick responses. It seems that connecting to the + terminal on the coil or the + terminal (big bolt) on the alternator and grounding to the body or a point on the engine are both better alternatives than what I was doing. Y'all just saved me a lot of wear'n'tear on my jeans and t-shirts.
