Subject: Worn CLutch?
Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

Hello All- The summer has been busy here in Colorado and with my recent (June) purchase of a "new" Westy, I have been all over and not been doing much more with the list other than reading some postings now and again.

But...

Reality has returned and I need to correct a persistent problem on the Wolfie which has been patiently sitting the driveway waiting for attention. The problem is that the clutch basically is barely disengaged when the pedal is fully depressed and engages when the pedal is bare and inch off the floor. It can be driven just fine, shfting well through all gears except reverse. reverse too is fine, so long as the engine is cold. Was it has warmed tho' it becomes ugly trying to shift into reverse. Much grinding. I usually either start in reverse or park so that it is not required. The pedal does not feel soft and spongy. It basically feels firm, it just does not disengage the clutch until it is near the floor. The Westy on the other hand disengages, say, about half way between fully released and fully depressed.

I have (1) replaced the master cylinder (2) replaced the slave cylinder (3) abundantly bled the hydraulics (i.e. maybe 40 ox fluid passed through, clear, no bubbles

I cannot decide if the persistent pedal problem is really still a hidden air in the line issue r if the clutch requires repair. In the latter case, I definetly cannot sort out what component of the clutch might be to blame. Can anyone suggest any further diagnostics I might try or perhaps have a diagnosis to share?

TIA
