Subject: Head pitting

Greetings and Salutations; I decided to attack that low compression problem on my 2.1L 86 Transporter with 200K miles. After removing the left head I was pleasantly surprised to find absolutely NO pitting! I attribute it to routine maintenance i.e. changing the coolant. It had the green stuff when I bought it at about 99k. I switched to Prestone orange about five years ago. I also grounded both heads to the chassis. The low compression was an exhaust valve as I suspected. I also noted the stem was mushroomed out on both exhaust valves and the contact area on the adjustment screws were galled up. I replaced all that and am planning to be back on the road by this weekend.
