Rich and Annemarie,

A decent industrial supply house should have a 17 mm Allen for a few dollars. I found that a good tool for this purpose can be made by cutting off about an inch-worth from the long arm of the Allen and silver soldering it into the box end of an old combination wrench. If you do not want to do that, you can also use the cutoff piece in a 17 mm socket. What remains of the Allen wrench is still a usable tool.
