My a/c roof vents came a crashing down three weeks ago. One call to the local VW dealer and after two days in his shop it was fixed FOR FREE under the Warranty Recall Campaign SU, # 93V175000. AFAIK, all dealers are obligated under Federal law to fix any and all items whenever a recall campaign is issued. This, I believe, is true regardless of whether the vehicle is still owned by the original purchaser, or has gone through a multitude of owners.

VW (VOA) apparently will overnight any parts required for a recall repair, so it doesn't matter if your local dealer has the repair kit or not. Mine didn't, but it showed up the next morning, Fedex from the Chicago warehouse.

So, the moral is: If it ain't broke, don't fix it, but if it does break, hope it is a recall item!
