1. Sounds like an ignition switch problem. There are several circuits in the switch. Sometimes some systems will work and some won't.

2. Battery can be new but weak. Check it with the headlights.

3. I had a similar problem. Was a combination of weak battery and faulty ignition switch (high resistance contact I believe). Replaced the battery and problem was gone, but I still believe my switch is marginal. Sometimes the headlights will go off while driving. I turn the car an and off and they come back. Got to find some spare time.

1. Check battery (with headlights). If no good, jump start with cable from other car (watch the polarity!!!). Avoid large sparks when connecting (battery gases are explosive).

2. Check connection to starter motor solenoid (starter is above tranny, should be a red cable coming to it from the top). Wiggle it and make sure it makes good contact.
