I'd be interested, but maybe a simpler solution would be to redesign the J pipe to give more room for the muffler and cat. There is plenty of room to have it jog over to the left six inches, but a new support bracket would also need to be fabricated. Would the 2.1 fit without the cat? Mine is empty, and it came from the factory that way. I pass emissions with no problem.
Note that it isn't the engine, it's the model year that is the determining factor. All 83.5-85 Vanagons use the same exhaust system, regardless of which engine is installed. You are looking at 2 1/2 years of production vs. six, but without knowing how many are still on the road It'll be hard to estimate demand. -- Stuart MacMillan Seattle '84 Vanagon Westy (now with 2.1 engine) '65 MGB (Daily driver since 1969) '74 MGB GT (Undergoing restoration) Assisting in restoration: '72 MGB GT (Daughter) '64 MGB (Son) Parts cars: '68 & 73 MGB, '67 MGB GT |
