Forget other transmissions, the stock trans will be fine. Instead , you can replace the bellhousing with one from a diesel Vanagon, or get an adaptor plate and flywheel kit from Kennedy Engineering. Then the Jetta engine will bolt right in. What other transaxles of VW or AUDI would fit up in the allowed space. Also if it was a front wheel drive. could i have the gears revearsed. IE porsche 914 transaxle 5 speed would it fit?
