It appears my '85 P/S switch to boost idle only works when the A/C is also on. I have an '85 1.9l with only the one idle boost valve on the firewall. The Bentley only mentions the P/S switch in the A/C wiring section. It looks to me like it picks up 12V when the compressor is on and the power steering switch closes when the wheel is cranked full one way or the other. The book clearly shows two valves for the Digijet (one each for A/C and one for P/S) but my engine appears to have only ever had one. (No paint or rust signs of a switch being removed.) Do you think VW thought they could eliminate the extra switch? The P/S switch only comes into to play under full lock situations anyway (theoretically). Is this a pressure switch or mechanical contact switch? Jay '85 Westy |
