Jeff, I feel your pain! This is just the sort of thing that prevents me attempting any but the simplest maintenance on my '85--& why I keep a Bentley as a "courtesy" to others better versed than I--who find it challenging to replace a rachet socket. Will some clever & ambitious person organize the archival information of this list?-- into a decent, real life, repair manual for Vanagons, including troubleshooting classic Vanagon problems, like "bucking" & Vanagon Syndrome? My previous VW mechanic foolishly trusted Bentley for my van's recent fuel line replacement--& ended up installing a critical plastic pipe UNDER instead of OVER the linkage. This omission in the Bentley caused a traumatic & embarrassing debacle in a filling station five minutes after I left the repair shop, when gas flooded two bays & the station was immediately shut down. Good luck, Jeff Phaedra . |
