I recently purchased a 1984 1.9l Vanagon GL, The previous owner drove it as a daily driver, so I drove it myself for two weeks to see/find little things here and there that need attention. I had it in for state inspection and it passed with flying colors, Before next years inspection I want to replace the right turn signal lense on the front, and hopefully find a set of foglights that will look good on him. The exhaust is a little rusted in spots, so I'll be looking for exhaust parts in the near future. Also during the inspection, in removing the right front tire, the mechanic broke the tip from the end of the speedometer cable, it still works, but speedo needle in jumpy, so I want to replace that before I drive very far. I don't drive fast, but I want accurate mileage. Onto the maintenance side, I noticed at times a slight tap to the engine, seemed only when it was cold, A local vw mechanic gave me a bottle of gold liquid to pour into the engine, I'm supposed to run this in the engine for a few days to clean out the sludge and stuff before I change oil. The previous owner, by looking at the dipstick ran 10w30 in this engine, and unfortunately, green antifreeze. I plan a flush of fluids for this weekend, and hopefully have the van ready for one trip this year. It's a passenger van, and I would like to remove the seating in the rear, and build/construct my own interior into it. I've looked around my area, and cannot find many parts, so finding an entire weekender package sitting in one is gonna be even harder to find. I'd love some pictures of home made interiors if anyone out there has done so. I'd like to get some ideas for my interior, and maybe assist/work with someone out there doing it. One main thing I want to do is replace the headliner, the last owner was real loving to this van, but kept it clean, and gave it new tires... so I can't complain. Lots of rips and tears, so I'm thinking of making one from 3/8 inch thick stiff felt. any tips out there on good methods of doing this? Would appreciate some input :) TieDye
