First of all,I have to thank all the people that responded
to my post,23 in all. Due to my lack of available, accurate
information, the ideas everyone sent in proved to be
extremely helpfull. The problem did end up being a bad
solder joint in the ecu.It was caused by a small
intermitent short to ground in the circuit running from the
hall effect in the distributor to the ecu.It just barely
rubbed through the insulation(like one strand of copper
touching the body)under the vehicle where the harness goes
into the passenger compartment to the ecu.Found it by
pulling the harness out of the grommet so I could get a
good visual look at it. It appeared that hte harness was
not in it's original position which put extra strain on
it.Rerouted it when I put it back in.
Again,,,THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!

Towed this vehicle to my shop with no start, quit on the
road. Check for spark--no spark--no fuel pump operation--no
injector pulse. Following manual--checked for power at hall
effect device on blk/red wire--no power, according to my
manual the hall effect gets it's power directly from
ecu.Checked for 5 volt reference at tps and cts--no
reference. I have very limited experience on V.W.'s as
there are not very many of them in my area,so, I also have
limited information. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks
in advance!!!!!!!
