I use an app called "superdesk" on my laptop that does 1024 x 768 max. Its shareware or something like that. It allows you to scroll around the screen. Its a virtual desktop program designed to give you more desktops, not a bigger one. But it does allow you to scroll around to the parts you cannot see. You do not get to see the whole screen at once, but its better than nothing.

If anyone has something better, I'd like to know.
