I spent years repairing aircraft and industrial ground equipment for Delta A/L. This practice was common there however I could not pin down where it originated. I spoke with several lubricant manufacturers representatives and they had no knowledge of / data on this practice and were therefore reluctant to comment either pro or con the practice. I believe filter priming with ATF is common in many large diesel engine repair shops for the same reasons outlined below.

At Delta we metered used / filtered engine oil into our diesel fuel for two reasons: It helped up get rid of the old lubricating oils and it added lubricity to the Jet-A fuel (kerosene) that we ran our diesel equipment on thereby prolonging the life of the fuel injection equipment.

hi all, was just reading an article about diesel fuel filters- this guy says when he changes them, he fills them with automatic trans fluid!? has anybody on the list tried this?? he says this is really good for cleaning injectors- upon initial start the straight trans fluid power cleans the injectors. any thoughts or comments? http://www.bright.net/~vwdiesel/atf.htm Brian
