1985 Volkswagen VANAGON 1.9 L

Trans: Standard VIN: WV2ZB0250FH066148

Misc Data: Waterboxer Affected Item: engine temp Condition: overheats at idle

____________________________________________________________

When the van idles for an extended period the temp climbs to red mark, Replaced thermostat because it was orig. When driving, temp is normal, pulling long hill, temp is normal. Fan comes on at normal radiator temp. Radiator is cool(150-160 deg f) when engine is overheating. I suspect a water pump not pumping enough, is there anything else I should check?
