Actually this is bad news concerning the mufflers for the 1.9 litre waterboxer engined Vanagons. Thanks to List Member Eric Giroux who kindly lent his 1984 Westy to STEBRO for the day yesterday to examine the possibilities of mounting the current production STEBRO/Vanagon Stainless Steel Muffler. This muffler is about 6" too long to fit in the space. The solution may seem easy, just cut the muffler we have now 6" shorter. This will not work as the muffler will be too loud. The engineer at STEBRO says that the only proper way to have a muffler for this vehicle is to start again at square one. We need and original VW muffler for the 1.9 litre engine and from that they will design a whole new muffler to fit the 1.9. They are not sure that this is a worthwhile endeavour as the 1.9 litre equipped Vanagons are much less numerous than the 2.1 litre. Also they think that the cost of this muffler will be more than the current model they have for the 2.1 litre STEBRO wants me to do a small study to see what the sales possibilities are. So I'm asking all of you who might be interested in this muffler to respond to me. Let me know if you would be interested in buying one especially if it is more expensive than the $395 CND/$275 USD price for the STEBRO/Vanagon Stainless Steel Muffler for the 2.1 litre waterboxer engined Vanagons. Any and all comments are welcome and this information will be compiled and sent to STEBRO for their use in deciding what to do.

Cheers
