Personally, I've found I can take a shower with 1 1/2 gallons! (important in self contained desert camping) ... first use just enough water to get wet and turn water off... then soap up... then rinse... Also, since I camp in the summer I have found the 3 gallon plastic shower bag (also available at REI) to be an easy, convenient, simple, and cheap way to go.... in the event that the weather is a bit too cool for the sun to warm the water... I simply warm water in a pan on the stove and pour it into the solar bag... works great. Usually I just put the bag on top of an open rear hatch and shower behind the van... but if it's cold I shower inside the van.... put a 5' x 7' tarp on the floor (laps up on the cabinet walls to contain water)... hang 3 shower curtains inside the van... and hang the shower bag from the pop top (pop top open)... after showing open the slider door and allow the tarp to spill the shower water out...
