While reading about the sliding door latching problem, I was reminded about my own sliding door problem. I put wider than normal tires and wheels on my 87 GL. I love the enhanced handling but it is too wide to be practical if I still want to use the sliding door. Duting the late 70's, a few domestic van customizers used to sell longer arms for the sliding door. These arms allowed the rear of the door to swing-out farther in order to clear fender flares and such. I was told that Winkler or Projektzwo used to make these extended arms. Does anybody (Ken?) know where and how much these costs? I am aware that the rear latch has to be modfied to use a longer sliding arm. I have also been made aware that tuners in Europe cut and add a threaded section to the arm itself as one answer. I'm hoping for a less labor intensive solution. tia, BenT San Francisco |
