Well... look under the van at the front CV boots.... not far off the ground
are they? Seems to me they are very vulnerable to brush, sticks, rocks, etc.
when off roading.... one incident can cut a boot... how often do you look
under there to check on your boots? ... a cut boot allows dirt, sand, etc.
into the joint. If you find a cut boot soon enough the CV joint will not be
ruined... If you pay a mechanic to replace a CV boot it will cost about
$150... (I paid $180 for a steering boot to be replaced.) If you don't catch
it soon enough it will be the cost of the boot and new CV joints... big $ on
a Syncro! .... the CV boot protectors are about $70 each... seems like good
insurance to me... especially so if you drive to remote places where you
can't buy the boot.
