Hi!

I'm going to fit a G50 trans (1987-89 years, as these are shorter and will fit; other years are too long) to my 84 Caravelle.

For this I need the following GOOD USED parts: 87-89 G50 trans with clutch cylinder and release mechanism 930 CVs set of 4 G50 clutch with ringgear floorshift mechanism/lever/rod/couplings/knob from G50-equipped Carrera (and a stock Vanagon engine hatch)

Sportwagenservice Jacobi in Hamminkeln, Germany is willing to send me these items, but first offered me a set of G50 axles (which don't have outer CVs), then a set of 915 CVs (which won't fit the G50). This seems fishy, coming from a specialist Porsche wrecker. And a German listmember has warned me of ripoffs by German exporters, though he can't tell me whether Jacobi is one of these. A German T3/G50/VR6 owner didn't reply to my question.

Jacobi's prices (DM1=~$0.43US): trans DM2700 G50 axles with 2 CVs 700 915 axles with 4 CVs 900 all shifter parts 450 G50 starter 280 clutch w/ringgear 1100

This compares well with PartsHeaven (San Francisco), $US: trans $1800 930 CV 124 complete, new, each shifter 250

I really want to buy from Jacobi, due to their prices, but can't get confirmation as to their trustworthiness. I've saved hard for these parts, and just can't afford to lose the money. They don't take creditcards; therefore if the airfreighted parts don't arrive, or do arrive but are no good, I don't have the option of stopping or reversing payment.

At least PartsHeaven replied, and they may yet get my business. I take it the LA wreckers are greedy?

Regards Andrew
