Actually, the '68-79 Bus owners manuals (not sure of the Vanagon ones) specifically said to leave a window cracked open when closing all doors, because the vehicle is airtight (when new) and the doors could be difficult to close when there was nowhere for the air to escape. My last Westy ('85) was still almost airtight; you could not easily lower the poptop unless a window was open. Alas, my present '89 is apparantly not quite as airtight. (Of course, the big crack in the poptop skylight might have something to do with it ... been meaning to fix that ...)
