Subject: More 1.9l Starter Questions
Content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

My 1.9l 4-speed starter does not look like the starter shown in my Bentley. Is this a picture of an automatic starter, diesel or what? Are the 2.1l starters different? This one has a nose, a cover over the solenoid and different connections on the solenoid. Several vendors show different numbers for early and late manual starters. Some list all manuals together. If they are the same, why did VW double the wire size in '86+ (battery to starter cable)? Why does Kennedy Engineering Products say you have to buy an '86 or later starter if you put a Subaru motor in your '85? Somebody out there must know.
