IMHO lowered VW vans look awful. They are designed to have a big space below, and when lowered they just don't look right. Plus you lose the advantage of being able to drive over fallen logs etc. I very much doubt lowering will bring any real handling improvements, and in fact, if you lower and stiffen the suspension too much you lose traction on the inside wheels in cornering, resulting in severe understeer.
