I don't know about the Vanagon shifters, but on my Golf of the same age, the reverse lockout tang was a plastic finger that was only available by replacing the entire shifter. And yes, driving without it is very dangerous, I had several close calls pulling out into heavy traffic in the wrong gear before I could get it fixed. Not a lot of fun. Frank |
