speaking of skylights... I stupidly turned the knob on my skylight the wrong
way (swems to turn backwards to me... I would think clockwise would close
and counter-clockwise would open, but nooooo...), and I stripped the inside
of the plastic knob. Best solution? New one from TBD or Ken or does
someone have a used one in perfect shape (yeah, right) that I can buy?

Jim -
I just used JB Weld to attach a washer to the end of each of the flex
arm "pins" that poke through the channels. (The hole in the
washer is irrelevent to the installation; a disk with no hole would
work as well., although I kind of think the hole helps hold the JB
Weld more securely.) Now the pins slide, rather than roll, in the
channels. That probably makes the skylight slightly noisier and rougher
to open, but it still works just fine, and is adequately smooth, and the
cost
was around $0.00, which pleases me (I've got Scots on both sides of the
family). It's held up fine for 2 years. I take no credit, though - I found
the idea on somebody's web page, or possibly something in the list
archive - I don't remember where, unfortunately.
Don't forget to put the pins through the channels *before* you put
the washers on (unless they're just the right size to fit through the
little notches at the end of the channels).
