When I pulled out the bench cabinet in my 85 westy the flooring underneath was
some sort of particle board.  It had absorbed who knows what and was pretty
nasty.  I replace with the same stuff (I think my parents called it homosout or
something), they had some lying around.  You might want to replace it with
something less porous.
