Are the mounts broken or distorted? My van suffers from clutch shudder, too. Replacing the rear engine mounts really didn't help, and I'm starting to wonder if the front tranny mount might actually be the problem.

Anyway, to answer your question, It's a dirty job, but not a particularly hard one.

Remove AFM and air cleaner. Disconnect accelerator cable.

Put a floor jack under the engine (don't lift). Remove bolts holding engine crossmember. The jack is now holding the engine up. Lower it to allow access from beneath.

You'll want to keep an eye on stuff above to make sure that you're not putting tension on anything I didn't tell you to disconnect.

That's about it.
