My 77' is the last of the standards. I don't have a Super Beetle. Nosy Pet suggested worn out tie rod ends and also insisted on a new steering damper. I talked to my local mechanic about the damper and he said "ya, that's the part that controls that (he makes hand gestures of wobbling wheels)" This all happened after I got the wheels aligned. Before when it pulled to the side it didn't wobble. Sort of like dropping a stick in a hole and watching it waver in the wind, then putting your hand on it so it won't move. So what I'm thinking is the problem was always there, only hidden until now. I would suggest anyone who has questionable brakes have them serviced. Before you really had to press on it, now you barely touch it and it stops on a dime. My brake pedal now needs less of a push on them then a 90' Acura Integra with power assisted brakes. I can now drive at the usual speeds and conditions with confidence. These new shocks make a world of difference as well. :) The best part is the labor to have the car worked on is free. I only need to pay for the parts. This mechanic (not local) loves VW's so much that he does it for free. He doesn't only work of VW's... So I'll be needing a new or used starter. If there are any good deals/offers anywhere in or around LA or Orange County please let me know. Thank you
