Vanagon GL owner just had his van in to the dealer for some work around
the engine. He was a satisfied cusomer of many visits so when he was
told his van was ready, he paid his bill, grabbed his keys and down the
road he went on a trip.

On a two lane highway he came to an area with many switchbacks or "S"
curves as indicated on the highway sign. As he entered the first turn he
heard a "zzzzzzThump!" in the back of the vehicle apparently on the
right side. Entering the next turn he heard it again...."zzzzzzThump!",
this time on the left side. As he continued thru the "S" turns, the
noise continued. Right turns, "zzzzzzzThump!" on the left side. Left
turns, "zzzzzzThump! on the right side. This continued until he came to
a straight-away and it stopped.

On the staright-away, the driver decided to stop and determine what that
noise was. He carefully pulled over, shut down the engine, went to the
rear and opened the hatch. There, on his engine hatch cover cushion, was
a bit of a streak rubbed in the natting, stretching all the way across
in a straight line from one side of the van to the other, and at one end
of the streak, up against the rear side panel,  lay a piece of wood ----
an 8 inch long  2X4 block.

He looked at the block, thinking "The mechanic must have used this some
way, but I can't believe he left it in here...sure has made me wonder
what was wrong with the van!" Without further a-do, he grabbed the block
and tossed it on the side of the road, closed the hatch, got in the van,
and drove off.
