Gregg,

I see that you've received some replies on your question re: Vanagons. I had intended to follow up with a more serious reply, so here goes:

Vanagons are not fast. They will cruise all day long at 65 to 75mph, and the ride is quite comfortable (though some say it makes them seasick). It tends to rock over road imperfections, and feels a bit like a small boat. I enjoy the ride when on the open road. Due to it's slower acceleration, it is not ideal for stop and go city traffic, but even for that use, it gets by quite nicely. Mine has been my daily driver for 375,000 miles.

So far as zero to sixty, I have no real idea (don't own a sundial). I know that in the quarter mile available on freeway entrances, I am merging with traffic at around sixty, or maybe even seventy. Maybe 14 or 15 seconds? Either way, it has the power to keep up with traffic, and the ones that I've seen that don't, usually just need to have the injection fiddled with. If running properly, they are fine.

They do tend to need a bit of attention, by the way, and it helps if you are mechanically inclined, or at least attuned to the vehicle's smells and sounds. Like most cars, they talk to you and let you know if they want attention. You need to listen to them. After a while, you get used to all of the normal sounds, smells, and feelings, and you'll know when you're being spoken to.

If you're into speed, and things like snowmobiles, jet skis, etc., you may not like the van. If you tend to walk instead of run, and like to smell the flowers, you will probably fall in love with it.

Hope this helps,

Karl Wolz
