Rubber hoses may resist abrasion better than you think. After all, sheet rubber is use for masking in all manner of sandblasting work.

The reason not to use rubber hosing may be that, without the appropriate provisions, there is no certainty that its cross-sectional profile will be maintained throughout the run. I do not know the topological function of area vs. perimeter for the rubber hose but, I do know that in the extreme the cross-sectional area can vary greatly. Will this impede the functioning of the cooling system?
